So I finally decided to test out Berkley’s new Gulp Alive, a lot of people have been ranting and raving about it on the bass forums. I bought some Berkley Gulp Alive at Lakeside Fishing Shop in St.Clair Shores, they didn’t have a huge selection of different bodies, the selection was still ok. What hit my eye was the Pogy body style, it looks just like a minnow and seems to have a little action in the tail. The other body styles just seemed pretty limp, they didn’t have any mister twiser looking worms so I went with the Pogy. Set me back a good $20, then of course I had to buy some jig heads, my girlfriend was coming so I bought some worms also. The bill came to $30, pretty expensive just for picking up a few fishing items if you ask me. But, Berkley has always produced a good lure, their powerbait line has been really outstanding for me over the years.

Well, I went over to this point near me that feeds into Lake St. Clair. I took a few casts, looked down and tried to see what kind of play I could get out of the Pogy. I was pretty impressed, has some good action just like my Gitzit. It took quite a few casts before I caught anything with the Berkley Gulp Alive, I ended up catching a 14″ largemouth bass. Nothing huge, but was still fun to catch. Now, I did think it was going to catch more fish than my other lures. Nope really didn’t, I usually catch 1-4 bass out there usually and the lure didn’t surpass that. I just ended up catching only one bass on it. It’s only been one outing and it’s not to say it isn’t a good lure, I think it is. The spot where I go to fish sucks anyways. There were guys fishing as long as me and didn’t catch one dam thing. All in all today I caught 3 largemouth bass, 1 sheep head, 1 perch and a few rockbass. It was a really crappy day today, windy, cold, and rainy. So maybe I’ll have a better chance with it tomorrow, suppose to be a nice day tomorrow and maybe the cold front will move out.
