Next Fishing Trip: Kent Lake
Well it looks like I will be going to Kent Lake next fishing trip. I haven’t really found any other lakes I want to try out yet other than Lake Orion. Plus, I’m taking my Dad so I really want to catch some big fish with him. Last fishing trip with him, we didn’t catch anything but a crappie, so we’re in need of a good catch. I just hope we catch something this time. I’m going to try every frickin’ lure in my box.
Fishing and Camping
Anyone go camping lately? I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. My brother and a few family members are taking a camping trip over to Canada and doing little river fishing. But, the problem is Canada guards are checking for passports now. I don’t have one and don’t plan on buying one any time soon. They aren’t cheap.
I’m thinking of maybe taking a camping trip up north in Michigan or a camping trip down south Ohio. I heard Ohio has some great lakes for bass fishing. Just not sure if there are any camp grounds near lakes. It can be hard trying to find a camp ground right near a lake or river. I guess I’m going to have to do some real researching.
If anyone has had a fun camping fishing trip lately, please respond down below. I would love to hear a good fishing story or something.
Grand Haven Sunset
Check out this amazing picture of the sunset and beach in Grand Haven. I just love sunsets, it would be really cool if someone could get a picture of a largemouth bass jumping out of the water at sunset. But, everyone knows that’s next to impossible. Maybe do a little photoshopping, I guess that could make it work.

Bowfishing in Lake Erie
This picture was taken on lake Erie, a bunch of bowfisherman trying to shoot carp at night. The sport is becoming very popular throughout the states, many fisherman are putting down their fishing poles for bows and arrows. A lot of fisherman say “once I’ve been out bowfishing at night, I never go back to regular fishing again. It’s just too thrilling, regular fishing is just too boring sitting around waiting for a bite.”
Be honest with you, I kind of like the challenge. I look at it as man vs. fish. I mean how easy is it to pick up a bow and shoot a fish in the water. They say it’s a bit of a challenge because of refraction of light through the water distors the shape of the fish. But, I just think it’s like shooting fish in a bucket. I’m glad people are starting to get into the sport, but me, I’ll be sticking to regular bass fishing thank you! I guess there’ll be more bass on the lake for me.

Sunrise in Lake Missaukee Michigan
Are sunsets are talk of the town over here in Michigan, well guess what, our sunrises are just as good too. Here’s a great sunrise of some geese traveling across the lake. As you can see, the picture is just beautiful. This picture was taken by a bass fisherman on a Lake Missaukee, in Lake City. I’ve been trying to get some pictures with my new camera over here on Lake St. Clair, but it’s hard to since I’m always busy. Next time I go out fishing, I’ll have to try and get a few.

Lake Orion in Michigan
I think I’m going to try fishing Lake Orion in Michigan, it looks like and sounds like a decent lake to fish. Been on a few sportsman fishing forums and a bunch fo them told me to try it out. One fisherman said “black/blue jig on the break lines are great to catch fish. Also a black senko thrown shallow or near the sea walls is dynamite for bass. It’s one of the nicer oakland county lakes to fish. Nice looking weeds, clear water and there’s some really big bass in there.” So it looks like I’m going to give it a try. Might have to wake up early and give it a whole day of fishing, just as I did with Lakeville Lake.

Another Bad Fishing Day at Stony Creek Lake
I decided to take my Dad out fishing today, he’s 62 and you never know how much time you have left with your loved ones. When I got to my parents new apartment, I told him how I wanted to go to Kent Lake. He started complaining that he didn’t want to drive that far, so instead he really wanted to try out Stony Creek Lake because it was only a few miles down the road. I told him how Stony isn’t that great of lake for fishing. It’s decent sometimes for Crappie, but I never really hear of people catching a whole lot of fish out on the lake. And the both times that I fished there this year we didn’t catch anything of good size.
So we made it out there, my Dad first wanted to try trolling crankbaits right near the drop off point to deeper water. The big fish usually want to hang out there because that’s where some of the baitfish hide. Didn’t get nothing, so we tried shallow water, nothing. Then we tried drifting near the small waterfall, my Dad got a bite pulled his line up, and he found out he had caught a Crappie. Currently he was using a beetle spin, he got a little excited and thought we were going to catch a bunch of them. I was kind of stoked too, if you don’t know Crappie, they actually tend to travel in schools. So if you catch one, chances are good you’re going to catch a few more. Few minutes passed, then an hour, nothing else, not even a bite!
I did think I had a huge fish on at one point when we were trolling near the weed beds, but I think my lure just got caught on a weed bed. Could of been a pike, still very unsure though. Felt like the line was pulling, but when you’re trolling, a patch of weed beds can feel like that at times.
So end closed near, last past 4 hours we only caught one crappie. No bass and no pike, not even a bluegill when I tried fishing topwater near the shoreline. I think my Dad was really disappointed. All I told him was “told you so pops.” He knows I was right and we should of went to Kent Lake. Oh well, I got skunked, it happens. I guess there’s always the next fishing trip.
When we got back to his apartment, he suggested we should wake up real early one day and head out to Kent Lake in the morning. That’s not a bad idea, I never got out there real early before, I always ended up going there in the afternoon at the earliest. Might be really good for fishing, definitely worth a try. So I think that will be the next fishing trip I go on.
Kent Lake Fishing Trip last Friday
Well, I didn’t do so hot. The weirdest thing happened though, I was using a green and black Bomber crankbait and I had a rainbow trout follow it up. I was so stunned, I haven’t seen a rainbow trout in a very long time. It’s just too bad he didn’t bite, it would of made a really nice photo for the blog. I did catch a few largemouth on my fly setup though, they just weren’t that big and legal for eating. I was pretty bumbed out, i tried all types of different lures: crankbaits, top water fly, jig, and a mepps spinner. Also tried trolling, shallow water, deep water, drop of points and around the weed beds. Didn’t catch one dam thing! I should of tried the old beetle spin, but didn’t have a whole lot of time. I didn’t get out to Kent Lake till’ 6pm. I did however catch about 10 bluegill fish, perfect for an appetizer. I guess sometimes you win some and sometimes you lose some.
Video of World Record Bass
If you’re interested, here’s the video of Manabu Kurita’s record size largemouth bass. Weighing in at 22 pounds and 4 ounces. If it gets accepted by International Game Fish Association, it will beat George Perry’s record size bass. This record size bass was caught in Lake Biwa, Japan. Gotta love Manabu’s smile! If anyone can translate it, lol, translate it down below in the comments section please.
New World Record Bass
Is this the new world record largemouth bass? Well it sounds like it could be after I read the article on a fishing site. Manabu Kurita caught this largemouth bass at Lake Biwa in Japan. The bass supposedly weighs in at 22 pounds and 4 ounces. He will be submitting an application for world record recognition to the International Game Fish Association. If Kurita’s catch holds up, it would be the biggest legally caught certified largemouth in history, beating George Perry’s record size bass. That would mark seventy seven years since Perry’s record bass has been caught. Manabu Kurita caught the bass on a either a bluegill or a native fish similar to a bluegill. The rod he used was a Deps model and his reel was a Shimano Antares DC7, same company that made my reel. And the line he used was the new 25 pound fluorocarbon by Toray. Congratulations Manabu Kurita, you sure look excited holding up that huge largemouth bass.
