My girlfriend was talking to the store owner of a small shop down the street from me, she was ranting about these new insect repellent bands. The store owner says they work great for mosquitoes. My girlfriend first thought of me when she saw it, because I come back from fishing trips all bit up sometimes. So she bought the band and thought I should give it a try.

My last fishing trip at Kent Lake, it seemed to work pretty good. This was during the day time so it really didn’t put the band to the full test. Be honest with you, I think it’s a great idea. It’s hard for us fisherman to use the regular bug spray because it could possibly hit our hands or our arms and end up getting on the lure somehow. And that’s a big no no when it comes to fishing. This could deter away the fish immediately. The insect repelling bracelet or band, whatever you want to call it, goes on smoothly over your wrist or ankle. I put it on my ankle because I don’t want the smell getting anywhere near my line or lure.

I’ll report back when I test it out in the evening, when the insects are on full alert.

One of the most deadly lures to use on both smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. It can be fished in both slow and fast retrieve, twitch it to provoke the Bass even more into biting it. Well I have been using my 30lb Minn Kota Endura Trolling for over two months now on my Pelican Bass Raider 10 boat and have no complaints. I have taken it through windy situations, rough water and have even hit a few tree stumps over at Lakeville Lake in Oakland County Michigan. It’s held up really good! I couldn’t pass the Endura model up for only $100 at Gander Mountain, I mean for that price it was a steal. I was going to buy the Traxxis Digital Maximizer(delivers up to five times longer run time on a single battery charge), but the Gander Mountain employee informed me I really don’t need that for the small boat I’m using. He said the 30lb Endura will push my boat just fine! The only thing I wish it came with was the weedless wedge prop, but I can go out and buy one of those no problem and hook it on. The regular prop sometimes gets slowed down by the weeds, but that’s only once and awhile. Over the last 15 fishing trips it’s happened like twice. You just unhook the cables on the battery, tilt the prop up and pick the weeds off no problem, takes like 30 seconds. I picked the transom mount for my 10 foot Bass Raider, if you have a decent size bass boat, I suggest going with the bow mount trolling motor and at least pick a 50lb for those windy occasions out on the lake. I like sharing some of my favorite lures in my tackle box, one I have used for a very long time is the Mepps Spinner with Berkley Powerbait or the new Gulp Alive. What I do is take off the treble hook and attach a single hook to the spinner so you can either put on a Berkley Powerbait Worm or a Gulp Alive Worm. You can even put on some form of twister tail or tube body if you’d like, it’s up to you. Personally I like using the Powerbait soft platic lures because they have really nice scent to them. You can lure in a lot of big bass and other species of fish that way.

Why is this lure so much better than just a soft plastic on a regular jig head hook. Basically you’re getting the best of both worlds, minnow and worm because of the flashy blade up top. This drives the bass and other fish crazy, they just can’t resist.

You can actually design your own Mepps Spinner on the Mepps Spinner website and have them just include just a hook if you want. But I have found out it’s a lot cheaper to modify a Mepps Spinner from the store and just take off the treble hook and replace it with a normal hook yourself. If you buy from the Mepps Spinner website you will be paying top dollar and also paying for shipping and handling. Just go to the store, any fishing store has Mepps Spinners. Even Meijer or Walmart carry them, you can even buy from my store if you’d like. It would really help me out, but it’s up to you, wherever you find the cheapest price.

Try this lure out, it works great on Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Trout, Musky, Pike, Catfish, and big Crappie.

One other great thing is Mepps Spinners come in all shapes in sizes, so you can get a small blade 1 if you’re looking to pick up panfish. Or you can go with a size 4 blade and go for that really big bass, it’s all up to you. You can also change the beads on the wire and add heavier beads to get the lure deeper. Experiment, but basically the lure will work great with just changing the treble to a single hook and using a nice purple powerbait worm. Great new innovative swimait lure that actually swims like a real fish. The lure beat other fishing lures 19 to 4 in Florida bass contest, it mimics the motion of a real fish so realistically eight professionals couldn’t tell the difference between it and a live shad when it swam toward them on retrieval. The lure is broken into five segments, as water rushes through the bait on retrieval, the tail will flutter left to right. I haven’t tried this lure yet, but it looks like it could work really well.

This is an award winning swimbait that features a soft outer body and a hard inner core. This is the bass boat I ended up purchasing at Sports Authority: it comes equipped with 2 contoured sivel seats, built-in motor mount, bow electric motor mount, lure compartments, vertical rod holders, and carrying handles. The boat comes with RAM-X hull and deck, the material is impact resistant and has a memory capacity. I know because I already dropped it on it’s side trying to put the boat up on the roof. I was very impressed that it didn’t put a dent or crack in the hull. It is really a great boat for a fisherman that doesn’t have a whole lot of money or room in their garage. I have two muscle cars in my garage and still manage to fit this in my garage on it’s side perfectly. I purchased oars with the boat and it moves very well across the water just like a kayak. I want to eventually purchase a trolling motor for it. I transport the boat by putting it up on the roof of my Dodge Durango, sticks up really far, but with the right ratchets it will not move at all. It is really the perfect bass boat for me, you might like it as well.
