PostHeaderIcon Bass from last Fishing Trip

I think the times when you go fishing and you don’t think you’re going to catch anything are the times when you catch a huge fish or a whole lot of fish. I went to the lake across from my Sister’s house the other day and brought back two largemouth bass and a bluegill, my Dad and I were only out there for about 2 hours. We could of caught more but my Dad ended up losing two fish he had on and not to mention the humongous pike I couldn’t net. I felt so bad, my Dad was pissed.

My Dad ended up taking a cast right over near the edge of the weed beds, then all of a sudden he had a hit. It got off the first time, then the Pike hit it again. His whole rod was bent, the Pike didn’t fight a whole lot, but when he got right next to the boat he was a pain in the ass. The Pike was so big I couldn’t even net it, the problem was we were using an old fishing net from like the 70s. This was my Dad’s old fishing net, crappy as hell and he thought I was an idiot because I couldn’t net it. I tried netting it four times, first from the head position, then second time from the head position. I gave up then tried from the rear, that didn’t work. Then the crankbait caught on the net, then I just lifted the Pike out of the water with the crankbait stuck in it’s mouth and hooked on the net. He was wiggling like crazy, he then got loose and crashed in the water. I tried putting the net in after him and I missed him.

I felt like such an idiot, but it was mainly due just not having the right equipment. A large enough net is a must if you’re fishing for big fish. I’ll never make that mistake again! My stomach still turns just thinking about not landing that fish, oh well. Still turned out to be a fun fishing trip, I can’t wait to go back to that lake on Sunday(Father’s Day.) I’ll let you know how we do, here’s some pictures from the fishing trip, the fillets turned out pretty good. This is only my second time filleting fish so don’t be hard on me if I did a bad job.
